Student Life: Library Lead in

Our school library is accessible to all students and staff, with welcoming spaces led by a certified school librarian who provides relevant instruction, leadership, and resources to develop students' skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity.

Student Life: Library Support

Library Support

Our library values access, inquiry, literacy, collaboration, privacy, and equity. We support staff and students by connecting them with high-quality resources and instruction to enhance their learning.

We provide the following services to support learning:

  • Instruction - Students learn how to responsibly use and evaluate resources, information, and technology tools.
  • Access to resources - Students check out library books or access digital resources that meet their academic needs or help them explore their interests.
  • Reader’s Advisory - Get suggestions for which book to read next, or which resources to use for a project.

Library Mission Statement

The Herbert Akins Road Middle School Library is a welcoming center for curiosity, inquiry, and learning where every student belongs. In partnership with staff, we cultivate a love of reading and empower students to explore ideas, think critically, create, communicate, and learn with and from others as they continue to grow as confident, curious learners who seek new ideas, perspectives, and experiences.
